During the first nine weeks, students enrolled in Talladega County Schools began the 2020-2021 school year on the blended learning model out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of both our students and staff members. For students desiring full-time remote instruction, the Beacon Virtual Academy was developed and has been well attended with approximately 1700 students choosing this option.
The first nine weeks will conclude on October 16. After reviewing feedback collected from various stakeholders, it is my decision for students in Talladega County Schools to remain on the blended learning model through the end of the second nine weeks. The safety and well-being of students and staff members remains top priority.
Students attending the Beacon Virtual Academy may remain as full-time remote learners or return to school on the blended learning model by completing the BVA Intent Form. The second nine weeks will begin on October 19 for all students.
The blended learning model has afforded each school the opportunity to practice social distancing at the highest level combined with other safety protocols while maintaining a robust academic program. Moving forward with the anticipation of a segment of virtual learners returning to the blended model, social distancing will continue to be practiced as feasible. Masks/face coverings will be required for all students six years of age and older as mandated by Governor Kay Ivey. All sanitation protocols will remain in place to ensure the cleanliness of both our school facilities and school buses.
I appreciate your patience as we navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic. Our administrators, teachers, and support staff remain committed to providing a quality education despite the challenges we face due to the pandemic. The COVID-19 Tracker will remain accessible for your convenience as a means to check your child’s school status regarding positive COVID cases. The ultimate goal is to return to full time traditional learning in January 2021.

We are committed to transparency in reporting positive cases of COVID-19 within our school to all parents. Please note the following;
1.) A link for our SRES COVID-19 tracker has been placed in the links section of this website.
2.) The SRES COVID-19 tracker has also been placed in your child’s Google classroom.
This information is updated each day to show the number of positive cases within our school. The tracker will serve as daily communication regarding confirmed cases. To prevent the violation of HIPPA laws and the breach of confidentiality, we will only report numbers. Individuals will be contacted personally if “close contact “ is determined by ADPH.
At SRES, we have implemented the following measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff:
1.) Temperature checks each day for all students and staff.
2.) Isolation of potentially sick students.
3. Hand sanitation and frequent hand washing.
4.) Requirement of face masks or shields for all students or staff. Students 6 years old and under are not required but strongly encouraged to wear masks.
5.) Daily sanitation and disinfecting of classrooms, restrooms, buses, and other common areas.
6.) Placement of social distancing markers in hallways, stairways, cafeteria serving lines, and bus/car rider areas.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff is top priority. We ask for your commitment to the following:
1.) Monitor your child’s temperature daily before leaving home for school.
2.) Monitor for COVID-19 symptoms(cough, congestion, shortness of breath, or gastrointestinal symptoms).
3.) Reinforce hand washing, cough into elbow/tissue, no sharing of personal supplies, and self-reporting any symptoms to teacher, nurse, or school administration.
4.) Notify the school administrator immediately if your child is exposed to COVID-19, the student tested positive for COVID-19, or a household member tests positive for COVID-19.
