Ms. Skylar Smith

Hello! My name is Skylar Smith, and I am 25 years old. I graduated from Jacksonville State University in August 2020 with my Bachelor of Science in Education, concentrating on Secondary Social Science. This is my first year at Munford High School, and I am excited to be serving this community! I am the standard 9th-grade World History and standard 10th-grade US History A for the 2023-2024 school year. I will also be serving as the Yearbook sponsor.

Throughout 9th grade, we will be learning about a wide variety of historical topics and events. We start with European exploration and move into events like the Renaissance, Reformation, Enlightenment, and Scientific Revolution. We end the first semester with the Industrial Revolution. In the second semester, students learn about how imperialism transformed the world, World War I, World War II, and end the year learning about the mid-late 1900s.

10th grade takes a deep dive into the history of the United States. We begin our year discussing European exploration and colonization and examine what establishing the first 13 Colonies looked like for settlers. Students spend time learning about the different events of the American Revolution and we end the semester learning about the United States Constitution and major Supreme Court cases that helped shape the government we have today. Throughout the second semester, students learn about Andrew Jackson's presidency, the Second Great Awakening, and the Abolitionist Movement. We end the year learning about the United States Civil War.

My fiancé and I reside in Calhoun County. We have two cats, Cali and River, and a golden lab, Dekota.

My goal is to create a safe classroom environment where students feel safe to learn. I hope throughout their time in my classroom, students establish a greater understanding and appreciation for history. I encourage them to develop ownership, accountability, and responsibility concerning their school assignments and learning. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions about my classroom or your student's grade/progress. ROAR Lions!
