Mrs. Jessica Pearson

Hello Stemley Road Elementary Leaders and Families!

My name is Jessica Pearson. This is my 2nd year at SRES as the ARI Local Reading Specialist. My role is to partner with teachers and families to ensure students become proficient readers. More specifically, I co-teach with teachers of students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade to ensure students read at grade-level by 3rd grade (per the Alabama Literacy Act) and provide professional development in the Science of Reading for all teachers (K-6 grades). MOST IMPORTANTLY, my job is student-centered, and I make "moves" based on the needs of students. I have been with TCBOE for over ten years--3 years as an after-school tutor, 1/2 of a year as a special education long-term sub, and 8 years in the classroom as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher. I have my Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Jacksonville State University, as well as my Masters Degree in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama. I LOVE reading and teaching students to read. Growing up, I did not like reading one bit. It was a challenge for me. I can remember getting books from the library and acting like I was reading them, but never actually read them. It wasn't until my second year of teaching that I truly understood what reading really is! It then became my mission to ensure every student that walked through the doors of my classroom grew as a reader!

More about me personally-I have been married to my husband, Casey, for 7 years. We live and serve at a baptist camp in town and get to have fun all year long. We have two dogs-Sammy and Winston. I love music, especially singing and playing the guitar! I also love to read and be outside. Most importantly, I love Jesus and serving him! My life is devoted to doing what he calls me to do!
