Mrs. Iris Marcia Jemison

I am a 1979 graduate of Munford High School where I met and married my high school sweetheart, Jeffery Jemison. We have two children and five grandchildren. I attended Talladega College where I received a Bachelor's Degree in English. While in college I became a member of the Talladega College Jazz Ensemble, Alpha Chi Honor Society, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,Inc. After graduation from Talladega College, I began working as a teacher for the Coosa Valley Juvenile Detention Center in Anniston, Alabama. Shortly thereafter, I was granted a teaching position at Anniston Middle School where I taught 7/8 grade language arts for eight years. In 2004, I was hired at Winterboro High School where I taught 7/8 grade language arts, 10th grade creative writing, and speech and drama. In 2006, an opportunity became available for me to become a high school resource teacher for two schools: B.B. Comer High School, and Fayetteville High School where I served for three years. During this time, I received certification from the State Department of Education as a Continued Improvement Resource Specialist. In 2009, I became the Dropout Prevention Specialist at Winterboro High School where I created the first Commit to Graduate Ceremony for 9th grade students which is still part of their tradition to this day. I was also a presenter at the National Dropout Prevention  Conference in Orlando, Florida. I have been working at Talladega County Central High School for 12 years and this is my 24th year in education. I presently teach AP Literature and Composition, AP Language and Composition, English 11, English 12 and ACT Prep.  I am the Senior Beta Club Sponsor, Varsity Cheerleader Coach, and a member of the CIP Team. My hobbies include reading, writing, playing the piano and watching movies on SYFY and the ID channel.
