  • Dear MHS Parents/Students:

We have certainly been through a lot this year together, and the latest COVID-19 pandemic is no exception.  Even though school is not meeting in a physical location, the school year has not been canceled. It is our goal to make every student at MHS successful as they continue to grow into young adults.  I can assure you, WE MISS OUR STUDENTS!

We have received guidance from the Alabama State Department of Education and our local Talladega County Board of Education on how we will continue and make the best progress as the school year comes to an end.  The ALSDE has extended the school year until June 5, 2020, to allow time for teachers and students to get items completed.

We have developed a reasonable plan for students and teachers to complete the required education items.  We have modified our academic content to the bare minimum and have significantly condensed the workload (i.e. 2 assignments per week for each class that should not exceed 1 hour to complete).  With our recent parent/student internet access survey, we were able to make accommodations for every student. Those who have internet access will be able to communicate with their teacher through an online communication platform.  For those who do not have online access, our teachers have completed a school paper packet. Each teacher has secured “office hour” times for students to call, email, text, or even have a video chat. We are striving to do everything possible to ensure they are successful.  The MHS teaching staff has dedicated themselves to being available daily (Mon-Fri during their digital office hour times) so they can provide the learning support that is needed. This information will be provided in a 4th 9-week syllabus that will be included in the paper packet as well as on the student’s Google Classroom.  For those with internet access, teachers will be communicating through Google Classroom with information on how to contact them.

For those needing the paper packets, these will be available as you drive through the car rider line at Munford High School on Thursday, April 9, 2020, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  For students needing to pick up his/her Chromebook and has completed the on-line form, they can drive through the car rider line on Monday, April 6, 2020, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM or Thursday, April 9, 2020, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  You will stay in your car and we will come to you.  Meanwhile, we are working to help get any of the “essential items” from school lockers.  We will have a locker clean-out at another date in the future.

Thank you for your continued support during this time.  As more information becomes available, I will be sharing.  I know there are lots of questions, and quite frankly, I have many that I’ve been asking, too.  WE will be getting through this together!  We will keep you updated to the best of our ability as information is given to us.

    Stay safe and healthy,

    Seth Taylor

Please complete the form if you need to pick up any ESSENTIAL items (Chromebook, Medication, Paper Assignment Packet) from school.  You must complete this form in order to collect any item from MHS.  You WILL NOT be allowed to enter the building for any reason and you must remain in your vehicle.  Your items will be retrieved from your locker by school staff and delivered to your vehicle.  Pick up will be 10AM-12PM  Monday, April 6 or Thursday, April 9 in the car rider line of MHS.   Paper assignment packets will be available on April 9.  Per Nurse Willingham, any medication not picked up will be disposed of due to state regulations.

As you arrive at Munford High, you immediately notice the environmental theme that is evident throughout the school campus.  The fire tower, complete with Smokey Bear, greeting you at the driveway entrance, the many outdoor classrooms, and the forestry-themed elements found throughout the hallways and classroom spaces are signs that there is something very unique about our high school.  Our first partnership with the US Forest Service has made a long-lasting impact on our school culture at MHS, and the success has led to years of building partnerships, and most importantly meaningful relationships, with our community stakeholders. Our strong partnerships are the foundation of our school story and we want to preserve the history of Munford High’s road to success.  Where did the partnerships begin? How have they sustained for 15+ years? How have our students been impacted by our partnerships? These questions and many more will be answered in a series of podcasts about Munford High.
