About our Special Education Department
The Special Education Department serves approximately 11% of the total student population. The special education department believes in setting high expectations for all students. Talladega County Schools serve students ages 3-21. It is understood that a team approach is necessary to meet the needs of all learners. Services are provided utilizing the expertise of staff, as well as outside agencies, which results in the ongoing development and enhancement of best educational practices for all students. The special education department offers special education teachers, students, staff, and parents several levels of district and school support.
The special education department is dedicated to providing students with the current, research-based strategies needed to make progress toward academic, functional, and behavioral goals. Professional development opportunities are offered throughout the year to enhance skills in best practices for working with students with special needs.
About Section 504
Section 504 is Civil Rights legislation for persons with disabilities. The intent of legislation is to prevent discrimination based on disability.
